The Shimano Tiagra® 50WLRSA Long Range Special Lever Reel utilizes Shimano’s famed “L.R.S.” style drag curve. This style reel was originally designed for West Coast anglers who fish “Stand-Up” style from “Long Range” Charter Vessels. The Special-Cutting of the drag cam gives the 50 WLRSA a much wider usable range of drag pressures. Directly out of Free-Spool the drag starts up soft and gradually increases up to 44lbs at full drag. Designed to fish heavier line right out of the box, these reels are perfectly suited to long range fishing.
The Shimano Tiagra® 50WLRSA is a very popular model for us in the North East. It is just the right size for offshore trolling or fishing for medium to large sized pelagics such as Tuna, Sailfish, Mahi, and Mako. If your target is very large pelagics and the almighty giant tuna, you may need to go up in size for more line capacity. The Tiagra reels also features an innovative hydrothermal drag system that virtually eliminates the drag setting variances that affect today’s big game reels. They combine technology with years of expertise to deliver a reel that is truly superior.
The addition of Bluetooth connectivity means that now you can see your line counter, RPMs and control the speed from your iPhone or iPad. Function requires Hooker Electric’s “ReelTime” app available at the Apple App Store. Desktop requires iTunes to download app.
